The Movie:

Ek Niranjan is a typical Puri Jagannadh directed ‘masala’ film with no major twists and turns in it.

The story:

The story is relatively simple. Niranjan (Prabhas) is the younger son of coconut-seller parent. In his childhood, he is being kidnapped by Chidambaram (Makrand), a drug peddler who turns kids into beggars and rechristened Chotu. He grows up to become a bounty hunter - by handing over criminals to the police and earning money from it. He informs the police on the peddler as a child and he continues search for finding his real parents (played by Tanikella and Sangeeta) but in vain.

He happens to meet a guitar teacher Sameera (Kangana Ranaut) and love ensues between them. On other hand, chottu’s brother Kailash works for a local dada, Johnny Bhai (Sonu Sood) is arrested on charges of killing the minister which is planned by Johnny Bhai. Johnny Bhai wants to kill Kailash who is arrested fearing that he will reveal his name to the police interrogation. Kailash escapes from the police clutches and Jhonny Bhai is in search of him. The plot thickens as his brother Kailash (whom he is unaware of) is a criminal in Jhonny Bhai’s gang, so is his girl friend’s brother. The city police commisioner also asks Chotu to find Kailash and bag a handsome reward. Sameera’s brother vacates his house and escapes to Bangkok fearing Jhonny Bhai. Chotu also goes to Bangkok in search of Sameera and finds Kailash there. Jhonny Bhai kidnaps Sameera and her brother and threatens to kill them if Chotu does not hand over Kailash to him. How Chotu manages to free Sameera from Jhonny Bhai and meets his parents is rest of the story.

Performances:

Prabhas has done a really good performance. He looks stylish and exudes energy thoughout the film but he put very less effort in dances. His character is quite similar to Bujjigaaduwhich makes it feel its an extension of Bujjigaadu.

Kangana Ranaut debuts in telugu with this film and she played very glamorous role in it. But her looks and her dialog delivery in telugu is very artificial. She doesn’t fit for the ‘telugu girl’ role. She is really a pretty actress but her make up and her costumes makes it pathetic in this film.

Sonu sood is the best as a villain. He equalizes his role to prabhas in all common frames they both shared and he dominates prabhas in some frames as well. Brahmaji does equally good with him. Comedy track by Brahmanandam, Ali and Abhinaya Sri is totally waste. Rest of the cast is okay.

Music by mani sarma is good and the background music is just OK. Shaam K Naidu’s cinematography is decent. Editing by M.R.Verma is not upto standard. Written and directed by Puri Jaganandh, the film was expected to be as good as his earlier blockbuster ‘Pokiri’. But due to ordinary story, no major twists, average screenplay and dialog, the film to satisfy the audience and ‘Ek Niranjan’ however stands out to be an ordinary flick.

Verdict:

Ek Nirajan is just okay for an Ek time watch.

CineFresh Rating: Ek Niranjan Rating: 2.5 stars
