The Movie:
The suriya starrer, KS Ravikumar directed mass masala entertainer film with all the ingredients of commercial elements like action, sentiment, comedy and romance targeting all types of audiences. Its a typical KS Ravikumar film.
The Story:
A professional assassin, sharp shooter, jet setter, high flyer – that’s how Aadhavan (Suriya) is introduced to the audience. He is a assigned by Dr. Abdullah (Rahul Dev) to kill a magistrate (Late Murali) and yet to reveal the list of baddies involved in conniving acts of illegally transplanting the organs of poor and underprivileged children. But despite being a sharpshooter, Aadhavan misses his target and the magistrate survives.
This time to execute his plan perfectly, aadhavan gets into the house of Judge and manages to become cordial with family members. Amidst his efforts to kill, he meets an old lady (Saroja Devi – appearing on screen after 13 years!! ) and her beautiful grand-daughter Thara (Nayantara). The only person who knows about his cloak and dagger mission is the house cook (Vadivelu). But at a certain point, mysteries get unraveled about family’s past and unforgotten relationships.
What would our hero do now? How is this family connected to the main plot of the movie? Does he actually carry on the task or turn against the baddies? The film ends with the answers to all these questions.
Performances:
Suriya has proved he can do a role of a commercial masala hero with ease like ajith and vijay who woos the heroine, fight with the baddies, dances around the trees, delivering punch dialogues scene after scene. Showing suriya in negative shade doesn’t fit well for the film. Attempt to portray Suriya as a 10 year-old-boy is worth a mention.
Nayantara has done her usual deed in this movie ‘Aadhavan’ and that is to flaunt her cleavage and naval region to the most. The actress looks a bit aged in some frames and this is the fault of the director for demanding the cameraman to capture her close up
Vadivelu proves to be a major asset of the film as he brings cheers whenever he appears on screen. He simply steals the show with his comedy in the first half of the film. Its worth to mention that Vadivelu is the 2nd hero in the film!
Yesteryears’ heroine Saroja Devi is impressive. Rahul dev, Sayaji Shinde have done their best in this film.
Being KS Ravikumar’s commertial venture, the script is fully loaded a bunch of characters with Comedy, sentiment, Romance and action. But the director fails to impress the audience due to the inconsistency and flows in the script. The unimaginative climax disappoints as well.
The film scores in the technical department very well. R. Ganesh’s camerawork is impressive and the picturisation of songs such as ‘Yaeno Panithulli’ and ‘Hasili Fisili’ is spectacular.
Music by Harris Jayaraj is not much impressive as most of the tunes were already used in his earlier films. The background score feels irritating sometimes.
Verdict:
‘Aadhavan’ could have been good entertainment, but fails due to inconsistent script. Forget the logic; watch it once in this festive season.
